Some Videos from the past

I was looking for something on my You Tube Channel and came across this video I made of a Louisiana  Waterthrush, May of 2012! I don't even recall putting music to it...but it's sort of fun.  The weather has been so bad lately I have been doing nothing that I wish to share except moaning! Cold wind for 3 days followed by buckets of rain....So I'll share this with ya..

AND Jun 18, 2012 one of the loves of my life MILO! I know you guys remember him...he learned how to fly on the screen porch and this is one of the first videos I took of him...May of 2012

            

I had to go upstate and dog sit for my sister so I took my dogs and Milo with me! So he went on a car trip and we spent several days up in the mountains! While we were there he learned to sing.  

Some where in all my files is the video I made of the day I released him a week or so after this was taken.  I should upload it so I can enjoy watching it...and share his release with y'all. 

AND just to continue with the silly light mood that is cheering me up...here is a video I made of my favorite travel Bag.  I am a horrific video-ographer hope I don't give you vertigo!

And don't make fun of my southern accent I was born with it.

Every day is a new Adventure.

Sun's OUT finally!

We had rain for nearly the entire month of December and it was so humid and yukky we had the ac on for 3 weeks! But then finally the SUN was able to persevere. 

 Then BLAST!!!! now its overnights in the upper teens and high of 40! Heats ON! So the sun came out..I joined my yard birds outside, these are my regular guests no surprises since the Rusty Blackbird I posted a few weeks back.

Of course Northern cardinals are one of the most numerous birds in our yards is it not uncommon for 8-10 to be in one bush waiting...

Red bellied woodpeckers, whose bellies are not really red but reddish, are so cool they hang out on the tree trucks and are not too bothered by my presence in the yard..

A really nice looking White Throated Sparrow on the ground, 

There has been a brown tree creeper hanging out but I can never get him in the open to snap a shot of him I plan to keep trying...but I found this little puffed up white throated sparrow was not the least interested in hiding he was trying to warm up.  Look at those beautiful little feathers..."o)

and the camellia bush got a chance to bloom before the tempts dropped to 24 and turned them brown...

In the front yard where the cedars grow my old buddy Milo the Mockingbird, (I have no way of knowing this IS him but it makes me happy to think it could be so it IS as far as Im concerned ;o) was soaking up the last rays of the warming sun before it dipped low....he is guarding HIS cedar tree and its full of berries I had hoped cedar wax wings may come but he won't share if they do drop by... he will chase the entire flock away!  He wants all those berries for himself. 

...and there goes Mr Solar on his way down tonight...

I didn't take any photos yet but I am rehabbing another bird.  Once she is well I will. 

I cleaned up and made some tiny changes to my blog page here...got rid of some stuff I was tired of seeing and may trim more..and did you know now you can do a Highlighted Post, I have one in my right column, and did you know now you can drag and drop your photos into blogger? Sure is easier..give it a try!

ONE of the 3 art canvases has arrived I really like it!! When the other 2 arrive I will share the "hanging" with y'all.

Memories....

IF this doesnt melt your heart then you dont have one...these are the northern cardinal hatchlings that are in the bush right next to where Im working on the ladder.  Their first clutch was stolen by something...So Im glad to see they had another go and now there's 3 in the nest...I know first hand how hard it is to be a bird parent!!

Recall last yr at this time I was a bird mommy, I brought a baby n. mocking I called Milo home to raise when construction threatened his life...I was watching his mother who lives in the neighborhood where I work fledge her brood of 2 today! She is a great Mom..Im so glad I had the opportunity to get to know Milo it was one of the highlights of my life!!

I had to work today, can you belive that? Yeah it was awful, If I didnt need the money I would have stayed home..BUT next week I have the whole week off...OMG I hope I survive it! I have a 2 day trip to the mountains planned and the rest of the time I'll be working on the Project House!!!

And in remembrance of my dad, Herman Walling a veteran, thank you dad for your service!

FREE BIRD

SO as you recall I took Milo on a road trip with me, to my sisters for 4 days! It was quite the menagerie with 2 dogs and a wild bird in a huge freakin cage in my van..lol OH and the grub worms I had to take also..

SO anyways he was sitting next to me out on the deck and I saw he was trying to sing,,,how cool so anyways after we returned home I released Milo!!



HE didnt just fly away he hopped around a bit then  he ventured farther...he is still my baby and he is in the yard and he joins me on the yard bench when I go out with my coffee in the morning, and my drink in the evening!!

HE seems to be adjusting slowly but surely to being a free bird!! He hangs out by the birdbath a lot...




When I call his name he swoops over my head or lands on my shoulder. I try NOT to call him too much cause I want him to be successful but he is just too precious to NOT.



I read that Mockingbirds mate for life! And his parents who live near where I work, are building a second nest...Unfortunately Milo's brother was killed by a predator!! IF only the construction hadnt been going on, I think Milo would not have been abandoned, his brother must have been a little older, hatched first  and was ready to fledge and Milo was not, according to the research I did, they fledge 12 days after hatching...and there was 3 chicks to start with ...SO its possible that he was at least a week younger than his older brother....and thank goodness he didnt fledge  he surely would have been run down by a bull dozer..anyways he has been free for 4 days now and he looks great.



I will keep tossing out mealy worms for him as long as he comes around looking for it....I read that the parents help the young as long as they need help after fledging,

I have learned so MUCH from Milo, about letting go and trust---and when you really need help you have to be open to accept it...Milo was, and now he is right where he should be....up in a tree---a Free Bird!!

PHOTOS MISSING

Here is the promised updated photos of Milo the mockingbird ...he is really growing fast now...he has learned so much since my last update..he now drinks water, takes baths, and hunts gnats, flies, mosquitos, and anything else that moves in the screened porch.

What a joy he is!! I am already getting empty nest syndrone...
Had a great weekend, my friend and I attended a wedding, although I dont recommend marriage, the ceremony and reception was fun!! We celebrated being happily unhitched with a couple of drinks afterwards!! She spent the weekend here with me, Milo and Girls!! WHAT FUN WE HAD!!! Im only working 3 days this coming week, then Im headed up to the Mountains for 4 days!! A waterfall hike may be involved!!!
LIFE IS GOOD!!

BANG-its JUNE!!

WELL the good news first:

...My sister came down to spend the weekend with me, and we had a great day out at my favorite Wildlife Refuge..Sandhills.  We took our dogs, all 3, and our chairs and sat by water and watched the dogs play, AND we both agree we need to get a couple of kayaks to go around this sweet lake in...

Later we birded a large meadow, one of my favorite spots in the refuge.  Sis checks the field with the bins...

           

We spotted  Orchard Orioles swaying on the tips of the tall grass stalks and the scrubby trees...here is an adult male...AND this Immature one..

We saw lots of Eastern bluebirds,

indigo buntings, blue grosbeaks, and Eastern Kingbirds..

We saw Wild Turkey, Summer tanagers, Blue Jays, Red Headed Woodpeckers, 

AND I get as excited about wild flowers as I do birds and they are a little easier to photograph since they dont fly away..lol  A Painted Lady on Button Brush

IT was the perfect day cool and sunny!

 Milo news:
    he is doing great, flying all the way across the screen porch now and grabbing at stray flies and gnats, he is learning how to pick food up off the ground, and not having it all handed to him by me...so great progress...Ill get a new photo of him later in the week..

and now the bad news..

MY X, refused to accept my buy out offers even after I convinced the bank  to loan me the money...there IS a limit to how much I can pay back....I HAD Planned to retire in 2 yrs...

SO the homeplace is going up for sale...the listing is laying on my sofa waiting on me to read it, I HATE when a court can FORCE you to do what YOU DONT WANT TO DO...I cant mortgage my entire future.  BUT Its not all bad....IF and when it sells I will be able to do the traveling I want to do!! WHO knows what the future holds!!

all before breakfast...

NOTHING like a little snake wrangling before breakfast to whet one's appetite...

This young Eastern Phoebe  was looking for breakfast in the yard this morning..

Hopefully Milo will soon be joining him in the yard, he just had his spray bath  before breakfast and he loved it!! He has been practicing flying in the screen porch a couple times a day...he is learning!!

Memorial Weekend

Hooray it was a long weekend....no work today...the Boss said ILL BE OPEN IF YA'll want to work....and when I asked around NO ONE was gonna work, (but the boss)....they all said the same thing "I could use the money, but I need a day off more"...so THERE YOU GO, 4 outta 5 take freedom over money!!!! YEAH we are the 99%.

MILO the Mockingbird is doing great I moved him to bigger digs and he is just loving more room to stretch his wings---and squawk!

I went to the race track and dug this tub full of horse manure and its full of RED WIGGLERS..so his diet is more what it should be now...

THIS tub should last him his entire childhood! HE BEGS for food constantly. I bet I fed him 15 worms today! And he hasnt had his night feed yet.

We had this swell fellow come to visit our Aster flowers...I worked in the yard getting things done on Saturday and Sunday,,,,and made this Veggie-Tarian Pizza for dinner, with Veggie Cheese and TOFUKRY (tofu)I plucked some fresh basil and tossed on top wow it was good!

I like to have little whimsy's around this one and this one, and the birds planted a sunflower for us...

and in the garden I found this....Have no idea what it is, it came up from the compost I made..,.SO I hope it lives to maturity so I can see what it is...could be a winter squash, or some kind of melon?

 

AND today is the last day of my 3 day weekend, and I spent it cleaning up both my Vehicles...boy there were dirty...but now they are shining and looking good!!

So its back to work tomorrow...although I never stopped all weekend so I guess its just more of the same...ONE of these days IM gonna learn how to completely relax like Milo!!
