Sunny Sunday...

Im having more and more trouble making it around the net on my old Windows XP! Google has somehow made it impossible for me and many other unhappy Chrome users to work with our photos in Flickr.  That is my main photo storage.  So now I have to create my blog using Firefox and that's fine it's just I have all my bookmarks and favorites all set up on Chrome.  It's such a PIA.  Living in this capitalism is so suffocating!

Okay lets just get out in the woods and forget all that.  Sunday started out being the perfect spring day so I left the dogs sunning in the yard and I made my way over to my 3rd visit at my new patch.  

The wild plums are blooming and it's really nice to see flowers and honey bees!  

He has those pollen sacs on his legs full!  It was so nice to hear them buzzing around..The birds were out but harder to find in the scrubs and thickets...

Got a glimpse of the White Throated Sparrow...

It looks as if they recently mowed one of the trails it's a nice walk to the trees in the back...I still haven't followed the trail all the way into the woods only the verge of it maybe next time. 

I usually walk up to the woods and the trail splits into 2 up there...one to the left and one to the right...today I went to the right.  

Still plenty of song sparrows, Its hard to get exact counts cause they flush so quickly and only one or two will perch up enough for me to see them.  So my numbers are guesses based on what I felt I saw in a flash...I didn't see any Northern Bobwhite today

 Up high I heard the repeating song of the Brown Thrasher, they are similar to Mockingbirds in that they mock other species, yet with the Thrasher they normally repeat a tune only twice. Just about the time I thought to "make a video" he saw me and ducked down and got silent. 

 

They are big birds, I normally see them scratching around under the edge of shrubs looking for grub...but now it's Spring time to get up there and sing your hear out!  And speaking of the devil, here's one of my favs, the Northern Mockingbird...

The are so successful, you can see them everywhere. Even in a field of Broom Sedge...

I had 19 species on my new patch and it was given Hot Spot billing after I requested it, I hope other birders will now go there!  I had another stop planned for the day so after an hour and forty-five minutes of walking I was ready to sit in the van and drive to my next stop...Along the way I passed through the McLeod's Peach Farm...and the peach trees are blooming for as far as the eye can see! 

And the same scene was behind me too!  No wonder this area has so many bees!  The peaches are good but they are small compared to ones from Palisades in Colorado!! 

 This post is getting long but I want to keep going so  I'll split it, part 2 will follow in 24 hrs!

Remember when we went to the movies back in the days, and they had an Intermission???  Now they make you sit there for hours no intermission....

 They didn't run ads they just had a huge screen with the word INTERMISSION on it! You'd run out and get another coke or more popcorn and use the little girl's room...and we would always play in the wooden telephone booth!

        I'm going to keep typing and part two will post 24 hrs after this one...

Townies...Orangeburg

Mom Stops to smell the flowers....;o)

But first.....

 Just need to put the Toilet lid on and the bathroom is officially done! Oh and I have a wee gap on my cabinet door an inside latch should solve that problem...Hung the hand towel and its all good!!

I also am not too proud to admit when I make a mistake so I repainted the yellow wall to match the color of the rest of that open space...I did not chose the yellow but hated to know that money and time was wasted but better to admit defeat than go forward with something that I was not happy with LOVE the same color all over so much better and Another Bad idea is the dark cabinets so did those over ...

only a little time is all since I had the paint already...I did like the dark wood but it gave an overall darkness to the kitchen and since it has little natural light I had to lighten it up...

I am keeping the open cabinet in the dark wood tho I really like it...

the Bathroom & the Living Space is done!  Just little projects to do. 

All work and no play is not the way so I asked Mom if she would enjoy a day out she said yes so we drove to a nearby town that we had never bothered to visit, Orangeburg, SC. Roadside scenery was awesome some wildflowers in the fields.....

We passed through the town called  St Matthews this old house is the first thing you see...

then this bridge over the RR Track that goes right down main street!!  Half the town is one side of this track and half on the other side!  

IN Orangeburg they have kept their downtown in the mid century modern style! It had that old feel would be a great set for a movie say in the 60's for any Hollywood producers reading this...lol..

One reason we chose this town is  Edisto Gardens! There are rose gardens not blooming yet but the Azaleas were open..it was a beautiful day to be out and Mom enjoyed a walk...

Lots of cedar wax wings around that day and I spotted one Yellow throated warbler, he didnt allow a photo, but it was nice to see him and we heard black n whites too...

The Edisto river runs right at the back of the garden really nice. A slow flow this river passes thru Colleton State Park Miles  the south  of here...and there is a nice canoe trail there.

And a couple of white throated sparrows were up in the budding cherry trees..

We have decided to do more of these town visit trips, towns we have never bothered to stop and smell the roses at! So stay tuned for more! Meanwhile its back to the Painting and fixing up!!

Sun's OUT finally!

We had rain for nearly the entire month of December and it was so humid and yukky we had the ac on for 3 weeks! But then finally the SUN was able to persevere. 

 Then BLAST!!!! now its overnights in the upper teens and high of 40! Heats ON! So the sun came out..I joined my yard birds outside, these are my regular guests no surprises since the Rusty Blackbird I posted a few weeks back.

Of course Northern cardinals are one of the most numerous birds in our yards is it not uncommon for 8-10 to be in one bush waiting...

Red bellied woodpeckers, whose bellies are not really red but reddish, are so cool they hang out on the tree trucks and are not too bothered by my presence in the yard..

A really nice looking White Throated Sparrow on the ground, 

There has been a brown tree creeper hanging out but I can never get him in the open to snap a shot of him I plan to keep trying...but I found this little puffed up white throated sparrow was not the least interested in hiding he was trying to warm up.  Look at those beautiful little feathers..."o)

and the camellia bush got a chance to bloom before the tempts dropped to 24 and turned them brown...

In the front yard where the cedars grow my old buddy Milo the Mockingbird, (I have no way of knowing this IS him but it makes me happy to think it could be so it IS as far as Im concerned ;o) was soaking up the last rays of the warming sun before it dipped low....he is guarding HIS cedar tree and its full of berries I had hoped cedar wax wings may come but he won't share if they do drop by... he will chase the entire flock away!  He wants all those berries for himself. 

...and there goes Mr Solar on his way down tonight...

I didn't take any photos yet but I am rehabbing another bird.  Once she is well I will. 

I cleaned up and made some tiny changes to my blog page here...got rid of some stuff I was tired of seeing and may trim more..and did you know now you can do a Highlighted Post, I have one in my right column, and did you know now you can drag and drop your photos into blogger? Sure is easier..give it a try!

ONE of the 3 art canvases has arrived I really like it!! When the other 2 arrive I will share the "hanging" with y'all.

White Stuff!

WE had snow! It was late arriving we were looking for it on Tuesday, but it came Tuesday night looks like 3 inches...its cold~

 One good thing it brings the birds into better focus, they dont disapear into the foilage...I got that yellow shafted Flicker through the window...there was a small flock around.

              

I'm having some trouble with the spacing of these photos...but I'm not gonna mess too much the more I mess the worse they get :o(~ so its all over the place! Anyways the Northern cardinal and Blue Jays were busy in the yard, 

                               As well as the chipping sparrows, female cardinals ....

Dark eyed Juncos males and females abound, and a few American Goldfinch showed up- for snacks too!!

                     

At least I don't have to look at all the pine needles I have not removed off the front lawn this winter...that's kinda nice!

Course it will still be there when the snow melts, but for now I can imagine its perfect under there...

                      

The mail hasn't run yet, hope the mail person doesn't have an encounter with that icicle!
