-----------------------------------------------------------------

Once again I found little fodder for my blog post...it's smoking hot right now and I'm not motivated to go out and sweat.  Heat index is 104 -109 range.  And I have a new head cold who knows maybe I do have Covid again!  Our state jumped back up to 17.4% positive rate of those tested...and hospitalizations have risen by 400%.

I took a walk around Goodale lake last week and so I will share some of what I saw there...

Had a Great Blue Heron poking around I snuck up on him  he thought he heard something....Hello there!  We actually had bad air quality as the westerly winds had brought us some smoke for the fires out west...could barely make out this Great Egret over in the reeds...not far from the heron

Can't swim in this lake it has gators...

There was quite a few dragonflies out but I got no stills of them I did a snippet of video...

Life by the lake is moving slowly except for those guys.

So still all you can hear are the cicadas singing...

The Cyprus tree reminds me of an Elephant Foot with some extra toes..

And more swift movement in the water...

Back at home this bug has less toes,

I guess he can get by with 5 legs....I tried to find  out what this is, and the closest thing I found was a Conifer Seed Bug,

So now there's 3 very small and fragile baby birds in the hanging plant...hope the parents are ready for this!

I think some of that Grey hair in there is mine...

In the dearly departed dogwood, the hummers rest

...lastly the Green Anole hunting inside the screen porch..

Very slow and sultry week for me...

There was a mountain so I climbed it,
A river and I swam it,
A desert and I crossed it,
A cliff and I scaled it,
A rock and I  tossed it,
A seed and I planted it,
A falling star and I witnessed it,
A thought and I shared it.

This is US

Summer breeze makes me fine, Blowing through the Jasmine in my mind....

Some of you may know Im a huge Seals n Crofts fan...I listened to the old LP's I have till they barely play and it makes me sad, cause it's like  another part of my youth gone...I enjoyed those days  with my mind full of Jasmine and not in 2021...
can it to be 1972 again PLeASe???

Yes I want to go back to 1972, an old favorite song can take  you right back there to the Jasmine in your mind. So I worked on a craft project this week and I sat at the table painting and I put my Summer Breeze 33rpm on the old turntable...and as I painted I replayed all these wonderful memories.

Welcome home  Ladies!

Im still listening to Summer Breeze as I type and I can't help but go back to that time in my life...my husband and I went not married yet but we were a couple and these are some of our Summer Breeze memories...

                                                         Husband John

                                              Sweet days of Summer,

                                              Me,   Jones Beach NY 1972

... comparing people of these days to people of those days, I see  most of the people looked fit and they were up DOING something no one was lounging in a chair, they were swimming, playing in the sand, interacting with the surroundings, not cell phones!

John was a jockey in the 60's in England where was born and lived until 1963, This is his first winner, Spring Brough.

Here in my hometown there's 2 Racehorse Training Centers that is where we met, I was an exercise girl and he was training at that point...
That meant I exercised race horses 6 days a week...That is the crowd John and I hung with we were part of that scene back in 1972, so we attended lots of dinner/cocktail  parties, notice the decor in our old Apartment, and the clothes we wore..

this was in the Fall of 1973

Sorry there was not much I could do with editing these photos since the originals are 49 yrs old...half a freakin' century.  His tie was a bright mustard yellow, and my outfit was  big legged bell bottomed pants with a matching fitted button up top.  We always "dressed"  when we out anywhere except to work at the Track.

                                                                    SC 1972

One of my favorites horses, Belmont Park, 1973 Summer

We went to the Hunt Ball in 1973 and we got married in the same outfits Valentines day of  1974..

Here we are Christmas, Notice my Flower Child hair and my paisley Bohemian outfit, this is how I dressed at home most of the time...we had fondue parties, we drank rum, and laughed a LOT!

I used this wallet for MANY YEARS.

John on Christmas Day, a Tuxedo shirt, and a Bow Tie, carving the Ham!

our first dog together Lucky's Diamond, a Toy Fox Terrier

John had never had a dog in his entire life, me I spent my whole life with dogs...these 2 became inseparable.

What's Going Down around Home?

Here it is Wednesday already and my blog posts at Midnight on Thursday and I got nothing!! So grab the camera and see what's at hand...

My laundry basket broke...so I ran right out and...

Got some tape to fix it up...now you know me better than to think I would go purchase another one, this thing has loads of laundry left to do and I have plenty of tape...haha

Mom's Mimosa Tree

WHAT AM I UP TO?

I have been busy with chores around my homestead, grass cutting, stix pick up, some pruning of overgrown things and moving my suet feeder all over the place to try and stop squirrels from attacking.

and drying some  home grown Oregano...this is  one of my favorite herbs to grow even the squirrels don't bother it! The deer neither...it's the perfect herb..

I packed this jar with Jalapeno peppers fresh off the plant added vinegar and a sprinkle of sugar...in a couple weeks I will have a  hot vinegar splash which goes well with cooked greens of all kinds,

WHAT'S GROWING and WHATS NOT?

More goodies from the garden pots, but tomato is so obviously missing! I have some small green ones but nothing to pick! One plant is way tall over my head and it has flowers and tiny pin head size tomato...I don't think it's going to produce much.

This cherry size has a few

Hmmmm Maybe this Katydid is eating my tomato?

"TOMATO, WHERE?"

The Japanese Eggplant is trying to give me more fruit this is #5 some critter ripped the last 4 up while they were still small...I put screen over the top an attempt to save this one...Wish me luck..

"Namaste"

The Zucchini plant has given me more veg to enjoy and the green beans and asparagus give one or two tidbits daily that I break up over a salad...

I keep them in some water till time to cook

IN OTHER HOMESTEAD NEWS:

The Carolina Wren built a nest in  the airplane plant, unfortunately when I try to water the plant she flies out...I saw the eggs this time..

3 new homesteaders on the way...

The Blue Whale Hosta is always gorgeous and the hummers and bees get happy for this...

Getting Happy

The young Brown-Headed Nuthatches are quick at the feeder while the Carolina Chickadee waits a turn in the Holly Tree..

Refill this asap

DANGER

Meanwhile a drama of sorts was seen  on the handle of the  watering can..

Inch Worm? Trying very hard to mimic a stick on the handle... being stalked by an Assassin Bug...don't worry I moved the  little worm to safety..

dragons at the heliport landing

the dinner bell

The Gladiola I stole from the roadside wilds in FL are now blooming...

MEANWHILE

I skipped...down to the pasture for  plums just 2 days ago the tree was covered...

found one....good thing I didn't really want any jelly, hmmmm

HOLY Webworms! The eggs are laid by a little white moth  in the family Erebidae, and around here its mostly in the Persimmon trees.  They spin this web and the caterpillars defoliate the entire branch it does not harm the tree but it is ugly looking...

the black specks, caterpillar dodoo...so don't let it hit your head!

READY-SET-ACTION:

Here is a short video I put together of garden to table, its too hot to enjoy doing any DIY projects, birding, hiking or travel so I'm staying close to home and enjoying the simple things...

...like a home grown and cooked meal!
