Its a Lake Again!

Before I left for the overnight at my sisters to pick up Maggie, I finished up another bedroom paint job! Yes i can now paint, it took me about 2 weeks to do what You all could have done in 2 days but I'm happy to be able to do what I did!

OF course my sister filled up all the cracks, holes and made the repairs to the sheet rock, and sanded it before she left, and I did the final using a 6 inch roller on an extension stick.

I know I said no more wallpaper, but this one wall (on the left here) was in good shape so we left the top portion with wall paper and I painted the lower part, its a nice light color to add much needed light to this room.

so that's the 3rd bedroom done, I'll photo more when I get furniture in place which may be some time yet... while upstate the Lake has been refilled! My favorite little "duck pond" had been drained for more than a year all the waterfowl had left and it was a dead place...but the city got the dam repaired and built a new jetty and the birds are returning some geese have eggs on the little island already, and some hooded mergansers were romancing each other it would be cool to see them nest there too.  Here's the happy couple..

here he is checking out spots by the rocks, maybe the nest will be here?

She doesn't seem to care...maybe he is the DIY'er in this couple!

The coots were back... a small flock....

and some ring billed gulls have taken to the jetty....

and also seen was Pied-billed Grebe, Muscovy Duck, Canada Geese, Belted Kingfisher, Killdeer, E. Bluebird, Yellow Rump Warbler, A Robin, Mallards,  Red Shouldered Hawks, and Carolina Chickadees!!

It was a great day!!

I'm pooped! I find that I get tired faster since the accident, I guess the 4 months of doing a fraction of my normal daily activities and crossing the age threshold has taken a toll on me. I'm not out.... but I'm down...

about like our flag after the ice weighted it down till the pole bent.

I tried to add mushroom compost to my garden beds today there was still snow around the edges but the lettuce we planted before my sister left has sprouted and I've removed the top from the cold frame because the tempts are warming! By weekend we will be in the 70's.

...the girls wondering why we don't move farther south? We had all this snow, then ice, then rain, and then an Earthquake on Friday night 4.1 on the RS.

I'm not thrilled with my new camera, its def a step down from the last one (the one that just broke) I guess I'm gonna be looking for a new one..I like to try for bird photos and this camera has no eye piece! I didn't realize that when I bid on it...its very hard sometimes to see birds in the trees so trying to zero in on them while they're up in trees using the screen is pretty impossible.

Like this Northern Flicker even in the bland winter sky he is hard to find...not all are going to be right by the window....once I get back to hiking I will be hoping for woodzie shots! Im ready to go now just waiting on better weather to arrive..

Time is on my side and I think I will be able to at some point resume more of the activities I enjoy, IF I m hope for this year is for Mom to be strong enough for us to do some traveling! Not making any def plans yet its always a wait and see thing with her, she goes through the pain list daily, and now she is getting forgetful...ut-oh! But maybe she will forget the pain and just remember that she feels fine today?
Nothing was stopping this Eastern Towhee who has lost his tail...ouch

AND I do believe this is Milo come to visit me!!! Remember him? What a sweetheart .....It has to be him, he barely flies when I come outside...all the other birds flush into the trees, he hops on the ground with me right there... another week begins! We are headed upstate for an overnight stay and we are bringing Maggie back with us for a week. It should be a great weekend!!

Good Grief!

....sort of an addition to my last blog is this weeks blog.  Before 9 am I'm not only up and filled my bird feeders, I've also cooked enough food to last 3 days!  Just simple stuff a pot of red beans rice is on the other burner, and in the oven some corn, potatoes, then in the microwave a bag of steaming broccoli, and then some tea bags on the boil....

not a good shot of the downy? woodpecker at the suet, due to being taken through the glass...

The reason for all this flurry of activity so early?'s snowing again!! AND they say its an 80% chance of ICE later so we could lose our least we will have food cooked to eat and if we dont lose power we have our meals ready to warm up and eat.  We caught up some drinking water and got our lanterns at the ready, and thats about all one can do in prep for the loss of electric.  Now we wait and see..

The birds  are not happy campers it will soon be time for our spring birds to start nest building!

This snow is a very wet and heavy snow...its almost like slush, the temp is 34 once it dips tonight it will be ice for sure.

...oh well nothing we can do about that.

in unrelated news, I found this awesome hard shell camera bag at Goodwill, my Kodak fits in perfectly!  I paid $2.85 I bought it for resale but when I saw how well it fit my camera Im keeping it!

Here's a short video of the snow..its pretty coming down.

Today is my son's 33rd! happy birthday JT.

The Ups and the Downs...

Okay whats going on here? My little digital weather station keeps me informed about what's going on outside and inside...the time and date are not correct but the rest you know we had snow last week...and frozen water pipes!

the top set is our Inside tempts, the second set our Outside ones!

That created this....

Then....yesterday on a trip to town, I had to put the AC on in the car it was so Muggy we were dying in our heavy winter clothes as the humidity rose to 90% !

THEN that same night it dropped, started to rain and the high today was 40F.  We have had several days of very cold weather this winter, these tempts are kinda rare for South Carolina! Not unheard of but rare.  We had a 13F too...

I hear tomorrow it will be back to 60F more rain, and then one day later back to the 40's for highs...

ONE thing we can be sure of....once summer comes this is our normal!

...the radio station is 106.7 they cheered it on hoping for it to climb to 106..7F....and if it did, and if you were the 106th caller you would win....Drum Roll Please, $106.70
IT never rose that 4 more tenths! Drat!

This is my new favorite foods...corn on the cob cooked with Hot peppers, and then seared in a hot pan with butter and Garlic!! OMG its awesome..if we get the right pepper our tongues can easily reach 106 degrees!! Youzzers! its so good try it! You gotta rub the corn with the pepper after it's roasted, and let the hot juices drizzle all around the corn..I cook the corn in the husk in the microwave first, its easy to pull the husk and silks off then put in the hot skillet! Yum.

and a pear star for desert!
