Umpqua River Scenes...

I am stepping up my trip posts trying to get back to real time...its HARD I don't know how others do it...I did keep a notebook while on the road so that helps..I spent some time camping and hiking along the Umpqua River Scenic Byway.   Its a beautiful area and the river is wild and beautiful and National Forest provide ample camping!  Although now a lot of those campgrounds will be closing for winter so check before  you head this way!

Umpqua River  from Mott Bridge

I saw some Roosevelt Elk with brown headed cowbirds on their backs....helping with fly control...

We (Casey and I)  hiked to the Watson Waterfall although there was not a really good spot for a photo of the falls I did take this one...again low flow...I saw photos of this with good flow and its normally a gusher..

PHOTO MISSING

Trail side ...on the way up to the falls of the creek down stream...

Another unique thing I stumbled upon was this Toketee Water Project....an aqueduct made of redwood...it was completed in 1949 I had planned to hike to the Toketee Falls, but the elevation gain and the low flow I've experienced so far made me change my mind!

I did enjoy driving D-Van through this flow to wash off some road dust...drove down sprayed one side turned around did the other side then back up to do the back!! Worked quite well.

We camped At Apple Creek  A forest service CG...

in the morning we saw this American Dipper looking for his breakfast...

The white is a water proof covering to protect his eyes when he dives in!

the water was a stunning aqua in places...

Casey likes the cool water.

Saw some mergansers in the edges...not a good photo but fun to see them diving in this swift moving river...

Next up Crater Lake!
