Snow Day in DixxeLand!

Today was a snow day! I had to go out to the mailbox something I do almost every morning to send off my Ebay sales...I walk out in my PJ's cause chances are no one is gonna drive by...I had to put on my hooded coat today tho!  SO here's my walk back from the mailbox, the broken limbs are still in the driveway from the ice storm last week..

My daffodils  trying to bloom---

AND lots of birds huddling nearby the house looking for a meal...so I enjoyed snapping a few photos then stashing my camera under my coat till another one allowed a shot...

the yellow shafted northern flicker

the cute little chipping sparrows

the American Goldfinch

Pine Siskin...

Tufted Titmouse...

a really miserable looking northern cardinal

waiting for his mate to get a suet snack

the colorful underside of the Flicker

The Girlz curled up together inside...on one of the area rugs...

and Casey didn't want to get out of his bed  He huddled even closer in case I was about to insist he go outside, he can hold his water FOREVER!!

How do you spend a snow day??  We may get more on Thursday!

Some Birds on the Way to Lowes!!

The sun came out finally---for a few days anyways I had to make a trip to Lowes to get stuff for more projects.....but all this work is getting to me...so I stopped at a park to see what birds were hanging around...This Downy Woodpecker afforded me a good look.

Next up was this portly American Robin!

this Red Bellied Woodpecker was really upside down...notice the red belly!

and I didnt know Goldfinch loved to eat the seed in these sycamore  balls they were all over these trees...

they dangled,

napped...

snacked...

and contemplated the next move!

jumping from one ball to the next!

Back home I thought this was rather humorous, a different SPIN on things...

and then this afternoon we had a lovely sunset!!

the best way to end a peaceful day!!

Slow Grow?

Did you ever get one of those weekends where its all work and no play? Well thats what this one ended up as-LOTS of grass to cut, stuff to move, plants needing attention, housework, All that Have to--Stuff-yuk...but finally I'm relaxing now!! Noticed a few things...out in the garden...

Last yr this shot (left) of my basil crop was taken in mid to late June, The plants were not big but they bloomed assuring my seed for next yr. This yr I planted the basil EARLY started it indoors..
Its growing
But its not
blooming yet
AND I didnt save Seeds for next yr!!!

The tomatoes are getting big but taking so long to get ripe!

and my pepper plants
have plenty of leaf,
bloom, and yet only little pea sized peppers!

THE CUCUMBER
IS SMALL

THE DILL WENT
TO SEED

                                THE ONIONS?

THE STRAWBERRIES
DRIED UP ON THE
STEM

AND THE FIG TREE

all seem to be growing at a slower pace..I didnt do anything differently than I normally do..Last yr this fig tree was eaten by deer so it didnt quite recover--

This was amusing...one of the new female hummers feeding on the other side of the bottle...can you see her?

And look who is up to his old tricks..Watching me do all the work while he does all the relaxing!! He really has the life of Riley!!

And this Female American Goldfinch stopped to pay us a visit this weekend...In summer we dont generally get these finches but I guess she was passing through...and needed a drink of water!

How's your summer going so far?

WBW 29 Yonder Bird

American Goldfinch
 Ode to THE Birder

Oh Bird in the Sky
Flying so High

Dipping, soaring,
Gliding right by

ISO too low
F-stop too high

O-Aperture Priority
Shutter too Slow
OH DANG....
Where did that
Bird Go?

 S Hickman

Eastern Bluebird
Tripod or'e my shoulder
Out to field I go
Spirits er' a'soarin'
Expectations grow-n
Or'e the stream
Around 'er bend
Quietly he's waiting
There on yonder limb.

Chipping Sparrow
Little Brown Bird
Catching my eye

Sparrow or Wren
Taken to sky

Oh lark of yon' meadow
Take thee a rest

I'll snap a photo
Whilst you look
Your Best.
