Bath update!

I'm currently working on the Bathroom...

NO I'm not a carpenter, but big deal..lol I'm building something anyway! Here is the floor its a pine tongue n groove its all in now I need to update this photo...but I covered it over with some old rugs to protect it while I continue to work in the room...so Ill have to photo it later in the finished stage. I plan to try and match the natural finish like the existing floor... I put this ac vent here for a reason...before the duct work underneath blocked the access for plumbers to get in and do any repairs now it does not...I will put a rug over it with a loose weave and the air can still make it through Besides the heat and ac unit is NOT working so until that is replaced space heat n cooling will have to do...I put insulation in the exterior wall and used some of the rigid foam panels in the interior walls..

I swore off sheetrock or dry wall as they call it...I ate enough of that fine dust to choke a cow so I decided to go with bead board on the walls. I inspected all the wood they offered at Lowes and went with the bare unpainted one due to its sturdiness...those floppy sheets of paneling are like handling fabric it droops n falls on your head while you're trying to stand it in place..so this is rigid bead board wood panel sheets! I've finished nailing up the wood panels,

and caulked the seams, put up the crown molding, and painted that.. I've primed the walls (I did that today).  I did not use the original trim around the window, it was in bad shape...so I went with this kinda artsy stuff...its up and painted it will need a second coat.

...can you see the slight blue color just around the window? Its very pale, that is the color I selected for the wall.

Beadboard wood paneling painted light blue

I purchased the tile to put around the tub...I really HOPE I made the right color choice..

I am using a 12 x 12 tile (forgot to photo those) in  white as my main tile, its not a glazed tile it has a matte finish, it was on sale for 42c each I am using the 2 x 3 tiles as an accent border I will cut it in a row of 2 tiles and put it about half way or maybe at the level of the shelf? And the 3 x 12 bull nose is for the sides and top they did not have the bull nose in the matching white...I will also use the sheets of 2 x 3" for the top of that shelf at the back of the tub. Tomorrow I will finish the wall painting and put in the baseboards, and I have to come up with some sort of door for the little shelf/cabinet behind the tub...I have some old cabinet doors maybe I can cut one down and use it?  I got them FREE and have made a few other projects with the wood.

Once the painting and tiling is done I will purchase the toilet I'm going with a tall oval bowl ...and install it prior to the vanity since it will be easier to work in that corner without the vanity in the way.  I hope I can do that job...I've never put one in by myself, I've always had a helper...maybe I can get my son to help me, he owes me money sooooo...:o)

Still a lot of work left to do in this bath but its moving along faster than I thought it would...now the hard part starts the tiling and grouting.  I have to rent a tile cutter I've used one before it's no fun but I think I can do it...therefore I can!

Projects Full Steam Ahead!

We are going over the river and through the woods to my Son's house for Thanksgiving he is hosting for the very first time...yes he is growing up and I am happy to hand ALL the stress over to him...we used to consider someone grown at 19 or 20 now its 30 or 35! lol I am however expected to bring 2 sides and I am gonna toss in a third and one of my favorites  a bottle of Duplin Sweet Red Muscadine Wine grown and made in our sister Carolina State.

The Beautiful Couple...

We are still having sunny days followed by several of rain...I hate to complain when other states need water so much...I have wild ideas about how they want to build this pipeline from Canada to PA filled with crude oil...IM wondering why don't they build a pipeline from the soggy east to the dry west? Water is so much more important...I could catch enough off my roof alone to supply a family in CA! Imagine if we ALL caught up that water, it could flow thru a canal to Lake Meade!! I mean, doesn't that make more sense?  Did I tell y'all this already? The formula is this 1,000 sq ft roof with one inch of rain = 6,000 gallons of water!!  In the past 24 hrs we've has 2 inches of rain! An average 'water stingy' household uses about 3-4000 gallons per month.  12,000 gallons just soaked into the ground here...multiply that by all the homes in my county!!

...for me a good way to spend rainy days is to sew! I'm back on my projects...easing into it slowly...My old boss had given me some loose woven fabric to make drapes with. I wanted something to filter the sometimes bright sun that floods in.  So I made 3 panels they all stack to the side so here is the first one up,

This window is in the corner so I butted the pole right to the wall and put a finial on the other end...This is the curtain hardware Mom and I stained last summer!

And the other room I added drapes to...has 2 windows

My sister gave me this huge rug I folded it and it rode on the bench seat in the van covered with the dogs blankets and they rode on top of it all the way from CO! Its a very pretty rug I had hoped it would work in the living room but it was too big in there so its now in the largest bedroom and I think the colors will be easy to work with!

the rug

And in the living room I got the pillows made! I didn't find any bullion fringe decided to go more minimalist look.

One of my Fabric Line Designs

I have  ordered a 30 x 40 wall art canvas of one of my horse paintings to go over the couch delivery date is approx Dec 10th. I can't wait to see it...I've been planning to order one for like eons...this wall needs something colorful! Of course I'll update as soon as it arrives and is on the wall. I ordered from Easy Canvas Prints and got 80% off...so if you want one I'd jump on it now.

AND I got the wood for the bathroom floor!! That's the bathroom behind that sheet covered door in the background! I have not put the door back up there yet it would only be in the way SO I can drop the sheet to keep dust from getting all over the place while I work in there.

How long now have I have working on this house, seems like years!! Is sure was nice to have a break that didn't include a broken bone!

So the Project house is back on the front burner for the fall and winter...and maybe by spring it will be ready for occupancy!

Have a great day of Thanksgiving where ever you are, I have much to be thankful for and many plans for the future, hope you do too!!

All Before's no Afters

Some of you may be wondering what is going on at my project house...

its still a work in progress! Yeah the work came to an almost screeching halt with the injuries last yr, but I have not completely given up.  I do what I can for as long as I can and that will have to do for now!  I try to devote one hr per day to the projects and it varies as I jump from one thing to the next!

I was back to stripping wall paper in this area that at one time was a hall way, it had 2 layers of paper covered with a layer of paint!! Time consuming but not to hard to get off I spray with water, and let it sit and then it slides right off...unfortunately I sometimes make a gouge mark in the sheetrock I'm trying to expose and that has to be spackled.  The attic step from whence I fell right there in this shot its closed of course and has to be replaced!

There is paneling half way down that I'm leaving in place it will be painted...same color as the wall...the ceiling is ceiling tile.  I would like to remove these boards and replace this tile...we'll see-- that all depends on the budget and my recovery!  I got all the paper off in this area and began the spackling of the corners and bad specks...I took the bathroom door off the hinges, it has some problems Ill explain at another time...

This old hallway was a sunny yellow color! There was a wall right there where that corner is beyond the door to the right we took that down back in 1977 to give more room n the kitchen an old oil heater used to sit in that area, it was a dark creepy hallway... this house was built in the 40's or 50's and we moved it to this location in 1977 it traveled on wheels for 12 miles!  It used to sit right where there is a Wendy's restaurant now in town...it was a "town house" that came to the country!  ONE of these days Ill try to find the photos of the house being moved!

and the tear out of the bathroom has begun!

sink, toilet, and wall board removed
old toilet in place

old tile in place

old tile coming off

There is old sheetrock under that old wall board! its in baaaaddd shape probably will have to come out...Where is the sledge hammer?

Next time you see this corner I hope it will be bare!!
ITS a long way from being anything like an After....

here is a tiny after....recall the ivy outside that was covering everything? I did get it under control...and I planted these 2 shrubs to fill in this empty spot. So far these shrubs are growing.

ivy out of control

.

There is plenty of other projects in the works...I don't have any AFTERS for now but one day...this place will be the envy of the neighborhood!
