Warbler Neck

Weird weather continues to plague us, wind storms, late freezes, heavy rain, thunder storms, and in the mountains, snow! So anything goes but my favorite weather has been scarce, Warm and Sunny! ;o)  I took these photo  on Sunday when it was sunny but COLD...

The Yellow Rumped Warbler the first Warblers to arrive and the last ones to leave!

Tuesday I headed over to Lee State Park, because more rain is on the way so I went to see if I could find some more Warblers...

The Pine Warbler, lives here year round...and they nest in PINE TREES!

In Winter this warbler migrates to Mexico, Central America and the Northwest areas of South America Along with Cuba and the Islands....some winter in Florida and the Gulf Coast of the USA.  But they Nest Here and the oldest one recorded was over 11 yrs old. 

How many turtles on one perch?

This tiny turtle is about the size of Silver Dollar...A Wood Turtle?

The Northern Parula is back...they over winter in Central American and Cuba!  They Breed Here!

I also saw the White Eyed and Blue Headed Vireo's  almost got shots of them..

 along with Yellow Throated Warbler. 

 the Hermit Thrush allowed a photo of all 3 sides of him...they breed mostly up in the Canadian Provinces. 

And A bird I see daily is the female Northern Cardinal She will be laying her eggs soon...they live here year round. 

I had a quick snack lunch...then headed to the boardwalk...

Before I knew it the sky had clouded over....

So time to head home....

And this  has to be the worst wildlife photo ever taken, but can you just make out in the blurry background the shape of a Bob Cat?

It crossed the road quickly and then slinked into the deep brush by the time I had my camera up it was pretty well hidden.  

Since the time change my day is almost over before it gets going....It's gonna take me some time to catch up with the clock...Here is a new plant based breakfast "sausage" Im trying.  Its the Beyond Meat brand, and I really like it as well as their veggie burger,  It was pretty good AND the packaging is perfect, Cardboard!! 

I was able to find a lot of early Warblers, I'd like to find more but it's tough they are most always UP high in the tree tops...thus the title of this blog.

Observations of the week...

At this point Im just trying to get to the new year 

Hovering over a photo with your cursor will give you the caption....this is something new Im trying to remember to do...so try it out and see if you like it.

The landscape is mostly brown now..
We had some cold damp rainy weather and so I didn't get out much with my camera...I tried to find some seasonal color to share...

Taking my walk by one of the ponds sadly I had seen a dead fish floating...and then I saw this immature Bald Eagle cruising by and he circled and spied the fish...

I could not see the pond surface at this time cause some vegetation blocked my view but I enjoyed watching him as he... 

 maneuvered around the cell tower...and into position to go for it...

he was moving swiftly all this time, he disappeared and when he reappeared, rising up, he had the fish in his talons, too bad I missed the grab action, it all happened really fast..

Can you see the fish? I don't know what kind it was...

Its good to see any type flower this time of year.

I enjoyed these leaves from gold, orange, maroon, to bronze!

Around home my Christmas cacti have only a couple flowers on them I have kept them small because they can be very fragile...

The girls and I are enjoying a nightly fire to stay warm when we relax at night.  

NOW its on to the 3rd week of December...This weekend is the Free Christmas Concert, covid is on the rise I may or may not go...will decide last minute....I've been doing a lot of reminiscing of  Christmas's past...I purchased Home Alone 1 & 2 hope to watch on Christmas Eve...time to embrace new traditions. I think I am channeling my Mom this year as she never was a fan of the whole affair. BUT she did love to bake Magik Cookies!

Half way to 2022

This week I did make a quick stop at Bramblewood, by the Wateree River, 

saw a few birds wading  and in the holding  ponds...

Sadly there was one goose that had died, but nature has that figured out...

 the fun thing was the pollinator plot,

and the next fun thing was watching this Yellow Throated Warbler, feed a fledgling...

I wasn't fast enough to catch the actual feeding, but I enjoyed watching that part..

A quiet 4th was had around here I think I heard 4 firecrackers distantly and that was it.  Most of my original neighbors have either moved or died...sadly,  Im in that line. We had one of the coolest 4ths on record is what the tv weather man said it was amazing...I didn't even have my AC on if you can believe that.  It's back on today tho had to put it on about 1 pm. 

My Bee Balm had 2 blooms this year, I have been really treating it with Miracle Grow and spraying it with soapy water to keep the grasshoppers off it,  Only 2 blooms so far but sure is nice to see and the smell is amazing. 

The tiger lily is gonna have 4 flowers this year, 

and the tall phlox have been opened a long time already

The Wandering Jew is almost touching the ground...

This Camelia is outgrowing this space so it was either cut it down or cut it back so I chose to cut it back...I didn't take a before shot of course but now it has  a tall slender open weave look.  Should be pretty when it blooms in the late fall..

The veggies are still producing Im on my 6th zukes now, the last batch I cooked was so fresh and delicious..

I have 2 big Butternut squash Im trying to keep the deer and squirrel off limits..wish me luck. 

And more peppers, I had one with my salad tonight...

I cooked 

But this is not for me, its for the Girls!

I now use Fresh Pet for their meat....I have tried to eliminate the dry and heavily processed food from their diets.  They're officially now 13 years old on the 4th! That's 91 in human years. 

so they do a lot of sleeping and taking things easy. 

All grey but still loving life..
