WBW-22 EYE SEE!

I havent been very lucky in hitting the mark lately with my birding--went dashing through the woods following the black n white warbler only to get caught up in some black berry bushes and got some nice cuts and scratches for my trouble..Meanwhile I heard the "Here I am -Where Are You" repeated song of the red eyed vireo...but he was wayyy up in the canopy-- then the RIDICULOUSLY loud call of the White Eyed Vireo came booming out of the trees like a low rider retrofitted with oversized ghetto blasters and he was CLOSE BY--- AND I got his picture--amazing how this smll bird can have such a loud and crisp call...I had to lighten the photo quite a bit using curves and gamma in painstshop pro due to harsh backlighting--so its not so sharp--

YOU can see why he has that White Eyed Vireo name--

... he has a bug in his beak?

AND its official all of my summer breeders have arrived...here is the ruby throated hummingbird...this was shot through the window she has a white patch on her head...

a couple of my other summer favs like Summer Tanager  and the Great Crested Flycatchers are here for the nesting season...so I hope to get some new shots of them as the season marches on!

The Ruby throat is our "summer hummer"to,and great photo even through the screen!!
They usually arrive on our just a few days before Mother's day, so I try to have the food out for them and if I don't...they buzz back and forth at the slider door...and I know there here! Cute little guys!

  8. You did a great job with the photos! I am so jealous of the White-eyed Vireo sighting. Looks like a bug in the beak to me.

  12. Seems the smaller the bird, the bigger the voice! Except for that little hummer. I love hearing their little chittering voices. Great shots!

  14. Hi there - can't help thinking this - but I wonder if the very loud voice of the verio is due to the fact the you have filled you back yard with trumpets! (have a look at the hummer and you will see what I mean!)

Splendid picture - even if they have been subjected to my warped sense of humour!

  20. Actually my attention was caught by the eye of the bird on top. :-) Awesome hummingbird bellow!

By the way, go and visit Machu Picchu, I promise you won't be disappointed, the place is just magical. However it's overcrowded now, so avoid the high season... When I went there the old (and only) train took six hours to make the journey from Cuzco and it was awesome!
