October is Hard

...for me, the moon in my house must be falling...

I have been birding a little... my radius continues to draw the regulars nothing new so far this month...I hope it will improve as the migration goes forward. So I've been on warbler watch and I'll share some of what I've found along the way not all were photographed...none of these came out of my 5 mile...because I didn't want to miss all the good stuff that is out beyond the 5 mile.

                                                           Olive Clouded Skipper

Eastern Phoebe

American Redstart female
And a male

White eyed Vireo

And the first Ovenbird I've seen a long time!

                                             Palm Warbler

Eastern Wood Peewee

Scarlet Tanager Non breeding male, a county bird for me..

Summer Tanager Immature Male

Young Eastern Bluebird

A Northern Parula

A Spice Bush Swallowtail Caterpillar

One of the deer went into the old barn...I think they like it in there...

Sadly my Mom fell again and she got some really awful cuts as she hit the door frame on her way down.  With old fragile skin it just ripped it to pieces...She went to the ER and was back home a few hrs later, but she will be house bound for a while till she gets able to use her walker again...

That morning we had taken her with us to the Congaree National Park..she didn't really want to go but we made her go anyway...

She had her 95th Last week...

...this reminds me of meringue on Mom's Banana Pudding.

She actually did not enjoy the outing and demanded we take her home so we did...home is not always a safe place to be...she has forgotten how much she loves a day out and about in nature... I hope I never forget all the great times I've enjoyed sharing nature with my Mom the tree hugger...taken Dec 19, 2010 on the same boardwalk!

I know you all have read many blogs featuring my Mom...I've been sharing our Adventures for many years so I will keep you posted on her recovery.  She has a strong will and spunk and  I know she will try hard to get over this set back...if love alone could mend her she would be healed instantly.

PEACE
Every day is a new Adventure.

  1. I'm so sorry to hear about your mom's fall. I hope she heals quickly and is able to spend lots more time with you and your family. Love the tree-hugging photo!

Amazing selection of birds and wildlife in this post too. The caterpillar might be my favorite.

    1. HI Jen, Mom is hard to keep down! She doesn't recall the entire fall or the trip to the hospital when I help change her bandages she is shocked to see she has been injured. I hope to find some newbies in my 5 miles but it's getting hard!!

  3. I must say that my sympathies are with your mom. I am sure she is quite in control of her faculties and knows whether she wishes to go somewhere or not, and nobody should be forcing her to do things she doesn't want to. If I ever get to the stage your mom is at I want my daughter to help me, but not to take over my mind and make decisions for me.

    1. Yes, unfortunately my mom does not have her mind, she thinks she is living with her mother in Tennessee, her mother passed in 1975. We take mom out with us, otherwise she would be indoors not expereincing life.

  4. So sorry to read this about another fall for your mom. Hope she heals quickly but with such thin skint that we get in aging it takes a bit longer. Happy Birthday to her. Bless her heart.
You sure did get lots of pretty birds again. I have never heard of an ovenbird he or she is quite pretty. Never saw that type of caterillar and it looks like he is sticking his tongue out at you.

    1. That is actually his real head, the rest if all fake to make him look large! The eyes are fake as well...Mom is fortunate to not be in a nursing home and is at home with people who love her and keep her as well as we can we encourage her to keep moving and therefore keep living. Unfortunately she lost her balance and fell into the wall and the thin skin just gave way..She is doing really good and I expect her make a full recovery.

  5. That's a beautiful caterpillar, I dont think I've seen many caterpillars this year around here, unfortunately a sign of the times. Hope you Mom is getting back on her feet again. Growing old is certainly not for the faint hearted. All the best.

  7. Oh Sondra I am sending huge parcels of best wishes for your mom, whom I feel I’ve come to know well through your “writings”. I don’t ever want to forget the good times ... that seems like the worst. (As one pretty much right in the middle between you and your mom, this becomes more of an urgent wish every passing day). Please give her a huge hug for me and yourself one as well.

  8. I'm sorry to read about your Mum's fall, I hope she's on the mend, it's knocks the confidence doesn't it, my Dad's had a couple recently and it really threw him out of synch for a while.

    How amazing is the caterpillar!

  9. Bless your mom’s heart, and yours, as well. You’ve been such a good companion for her, and she for you. Here’s hoping she was just having a bad day, and will enjoy her next opportunity to be out of doors, enjoying the fresh air and sunshine. Keeping thoughts of her closeto my heart!
