RAIN DAY!

Today is a total wash out...so I'm stuck inside!  Sometimes eating a Vegan diet gets boring especially If you don't really want to do a lot of cooking! Have you been craving some American Food but don't do meat?  I have a Vegan Alternative...

There's more than one Veggie Dog out there look in the produce section near the tofu! (this is Lightlife Brand) There is also a Tofurkey which reminds me of a Bratz.  The best way to prepare these dogs is to grill them.  I have tried baking, boiling, and broiling...but using a cast iron pan with a little spray oil worked best.  I added my fav seasonings like garlic powder, paprika, so what ever you like. Roll them around till they are browned and little bubbles might even pop out.  You can cover reduce the heat to steam these just a little to make sure they're nice and hot all the way through because it browns up pretty fast. Don't overcook if you do, it gets tough.  You could toss in onion to brown along with this for the bratz.

You can put the dogs in a bun with all the trimmings, even some meatless chili, sauerkraut, but then you have a carb overload!!  I like to do this...each dog has 2 carbs, and each tortilla has 14,

Cut a 10" tortilla in half so you have 3 halves, then roll it around the dog...(get the no trans fat tortilla) place it in the pan with seam side down at first, then rotate them around till browned...

for a total of 27 carbs in these 3 hotdogs or "veggie pigs in the blanket"  In the normal American hotdog there is 5 grams of Saturated Fat, and about 21.5 carbs in one bun.  SO multiply that by 3! This is a healthier alternative and it's quite tasty!
Serve it up with your favorite side dish and favorite dipping sauce in my case plain ole' yellow mustard and a fresh made tossed salad of romaine & spinach and cilantro,  with white onion, roma tomato, and slivers of carrot, with a drizzle of lemon juice and olive oil over the greens.

Just dip and bite!  You can use this same method and place a baked zucchini, eggplant,  squash, baked carrot or sweet potato, Idaho wedges in the tortilla, make sure it's nothing "soupy"  quesadilla with veggie cheese...SO many ways to simplify the vegan diet.

I know it's the big game day but I really don't like football...May as well have a movie day in my pj's, there just happens to be a Walking Dead Marathon on today...Yippee!!

Now If I could find an alternative to "3 WET DOGS ON A BLANKET"

OMG they smell like zombies---:-o/

PEACE
Every day is a new Adventure.

  1. They look good Sondra. I'm not a vegetarian but my daughter is and I cooked and ate meals with her when she lived at home. She still likes my cooking whenever we visit.
I had problems commenting on your previous post so let hope I have more luck this time.

  2. The food looks great. I haven't tried veggie dogs, but we buy and use veggie burgers and ground all the time. I don't like football either -- Your real dogs are all in the mood for 'Walking Dead' ... at least they have the right scent LOL!

  3. Now you have given me something to eat that I had never thought of. That looks so good. I have eaten so many salads for lunch that I hate the thought of making another some days and then I get careless. Sometimes when I have not blogged for a long time I turn to food recipes. Have you ever used sweet potatoes for fries? I spray them and layer them on parchment paper and some paprika mix I found somewhere salt and pepper to taste, bake them in the oven until desired tenderness or crispness.

    1. Sometimes I get lazy and I don't want to prepare food, so something fast has an allure to it!
