Listen to the Mockingbird-WBW

Mockingbird, originally uploaded by Dixxe's Pixel's.

The Northern Mockingbird deserves the name he/she has earned by mocking not just other birds they hear but have also been known to add sounds from their surroundings like a ringing phone, a jackhammer, a squeaky brakes of a car...I took this video of this willing singer, enjoy the repertoire! Please visit more birds of the world over at Springman's.

Enjoy and Participate!

  8. That's a brilliant song Sondra. Over here our Song Thrushes have a similar knack at reproducing other bird calls as well as man made noises. It's quite weird to be walking through a forest and then to hear a phone ring from the trees above you.

  11. Sondra -- that's just wonderful! Fabulous video. We had one in Texas once that did the telephone ringing bit (over and over).... we have them here too, but their song is ordinary compared to yours. I loved this video.

  12. Great audio of its song.
I heard a very different sound from a mockingbird today, almost a hissing. I think I was too close to the site they had chosen for a nest. I think they have chosen a site to close to my apricot tree. I think we are in for some conflict, the mocking birds and I.
