Fine Stuff

So little sis flew back over and the three of us are together! We were a family again for an entire week...That was a boost for me.   On Sunday we went to the free Community Concert Band performance...this is something I have a history with, I hadn't been to one since I returned to SC, and this was their 40th anniversary.  It was fun!
Monday little sis and I drove down to the coast to do some birding.  This is the shot to the soul I needed...to spark interest in the things I love...we had some soupy fog to deal with but we had a great day anyways.

By the time we hiked the 1.2 miles down the beach to the Jetty we were soaked by mist...

We saw a Great Black Backed Gull here it is with a Ring Billed for scale...a state bird for me...and a lifer for sis, she racked up quite a few this day!

Lots of foggy Ruddy Turnstone

We had 2 beautiful Eared Grebe pop up...

Some really cute Sanderlings' on the rocks too...

Dunlin barely visible in this fog enjoyed poking thru the mud...

And then along came a Clapper Rail, he seemed to be strutting.

Missing a few legs but still spunky

Gr Blue Heron..

More  Shell trees!

How much cuter could a Semipalmated Plover be?

We made an entire day of it...what a great day it was!

Wednesday  we headed over to the McBee WMA, and found many Field Sparrow,

Photographed at a Cemetery in the afternoon, it was so cold that day...and Thursday we went to the Archives to do some family history research, and later we birded the County Riverside Park...lots of Cedar Waxwings were about.

Today its Friday and raining cats n dogs...the Sisters are hosting a brunch and little Sis leaves in the wee morning hours..it was a Fine Week! spent with Family!

My Mom memory for this post...

Here she is enjoying some tasty Ice Cream on one of our "Townies" day trips here in a small rural place called Lone Star, SC...this was taken in 2016.

 Such good times!

PEACE
Every day is a new Adventure.

    1. Hi Jo, I imagine a gull got ahold of that crab, probably lucky he lost only his legs, it's a dog eat dog at the shoreline.

    1. My Mom has been to Huntington Beach to bird with me before, and I should have put that photo underneath..maybe next time. She was the one who instilled the love of the outdoors in me. Thanks Sallie.

  3. You certainly had a lot of fog, but good to get back to doing the things you enjoy. The waxwings are lovely, some years we get an influx of them from Scandinavia and then there is a frenzy among birdwatchers going to the places where they have been seen. One year I was one of them and they are a beautiful sight.

    1. Hi Dave thanks so much...the Waxwings are such a hearty group when they come in they can strip a tree of berries in minutes, so it's always a frenzy either way...lol Im happy you got to see them too.

  4. The spirit of a true naturalist is to deal with whatever the weather throws at you - and you did! A fine day of birding with your sister was the result, and what could be better than that? May I point out, with respect, that the world's largest gull, Larus marinus, is a Great Black-backed Gull, not a Greater Black-backed Gull.

    1. Hi David, thanks for pointing out the typo, I didn't see that. I'm pretty sure it's the auto correct feature that did that which I'm not a big fan of auto correct, just for this reason, most of the time it does a good job but it correctly spells the wrong word.

  5. Hello, Some times I enjoy a foggy walk, especially at the beach. Looks like a great day of birding with your sister. I am glad you all had a nice week together. I agree with Sallie above, nature heals. Love the Mom photo. Have a happy day and a great new week!

    1. Thank you Eileen! I wanted to share in this post a lady walking back that we met on the beach had just spotted Snow Bunting, we didn't re-find it but they have been spotted twice since then so...I may have to make another ride down there I was thinking of you and how you get them regularly up there, here they make the rare bird list.
