Kindred Spirits

Something different for Taphophile this week comes from a trip I made  a couple of years ago to...
Best Friends Animal Sanctuary outside Kanab Utah.
You may have seen it on a tv show called Dog Town.

Angel's Rest is the burial ground for the animals who pass away while at Best Friends...this gate at the cemetery entrance was made and donated by a caring animal lover.  This shot was taken through the window of the tour van...later we back for a closer look and had our lunch in a gazebo on the grounds.

Just finishing up lunch...

Ive never heard so many windchimes, its a beautiful serenade as you walk the paths to pay your respects to the animals that are buried here...
each grave is marked with a name and date...

The entire cemetery is completely Zen in nature and design.  Its simple, elegant, and a wonderful place to meditate, reflect, and absorb good energy--- which is fantastic, with all the "positive spirits" that have been released here you are completely at peace.  There is no evil in the heart of an animal...only pure sweet natural love and energy.

Angel's Rest is quite large, and in fact its filled to capactiy...a new cemetery has been started in another spot nearby...THIS is a place I wouldn't mind being buried myself!!

and now a short video of the grounds.

Best Friends depends completely on donations to stay afloat so if you want to help out, volunteer, donate,  or ADOPT a PET, its a worthy cause I can vouch for them...they make a Difference!! They have all sorts of animals from Horses, dogs, cats, birds to pigs!

PEACE

  1. What a wonderful idea! Only someone who has lost a pet can appreciate how heartbreaking it is for the whole family :-(
Having a memorial park like this for pets is great.

    1. Wouldnt it be great if our pets lifespan was the same as ours?

  2. I really like the way this is laid out. it leaves no room for 'infill' plots to ruin the zen flow.

  4. This is a different and interesting twist on the meme's theme. I've never visited a pet cemetery before although I know a few people who have buried or memorialized pets in their backyards.

  5. i have always thought of Utah as being an underpopulated state - but apparently not for animals if this cemetery is already full! It looks very nice and peaceful,

    1. Utah is a beautiful state, Best Friends takes in pets from other shelters that would otherwise have to destroy the pets, and its a very large facility...they have a wonderful Volunteer Program, a great way to get to spend some time in UTAH.

  8. What a grand idea for someone to have acted upon. I am presuming that this pet cemetery is in private rather than municipal hands. The design is the perfect issue for mine. I dont suppose it is possible for a human cemetery, being run for profit as they are.

I love the wind chime video ...

  9. Our dil worked for Best Friends for a while and we were always planning to visit, but never made it. She told us about the cemetery (and of course all the good work they do).

  10. I join those who have never seen a pet cemetery. We just buried our sweet dog under an old mango tree.

  13. The uniformity of the laid stones adds to the zen feeling of calmness. There isn't that sense of a few gravestones trying to outdo the others for attention as is found in many cemeteries.

  15. It's a nice and neat place. The windchimes must make a difference to it, the video sounds a bit mysteriously...
