WBW -24 This Bird has a Sweet Tooth!

This time of year when we are trying to feed the hummers we may get this problem--BUT wow what a cool problem--When I was out west last year these birds amused me over and over not just with their bright beautiful color but with these antics--

This is the Bullocks Oriole form of the Northern Oriole (called the Baltimore in the Eastern US and Bullock's for the Western US)

Icterus galbula

They love to get at the Hummingbird Feeders and they will also come to fruit and there is an oriole food available at bird feed stores.

This is the Female and the male together...the female is at the top of the photo.

Fun Birds to watch and Enjoy !!!

Hope you are enjoying your birding adventures!!  CLick this Icon to check out
what others have seen lately or maybe last yr even!!

PEACE

Northern Oriole Trivia: in the middle regions of the US around the great plains these 2 east/west orioles will interbreed and make birding ID'S dang hard for all of us!! The Hybrid is like the Baltimore but with a wide white wingbar of the Bullocks!

  4. That would definitely be a fun 'problem' to have at the feeders. I imagine they eat lots more than the hummingbirds. Nice photos!

  6. I bought a book with all birds in the world and maybe I'll find this little beauty there. You are lucky to be able to feed them in you garden and off course, to take so nice pictures of them.

  10. Happy World Bird Wednesday Sondra! What amazing color! I can't wait to have the orioles arrive here in Michigan this spring. I've got a 2x6 board with nails stuck in the corners and a little plastic bowl tacked to the middle. Orange halfs are pushed on to the nails and grape jelly goes in the dish. Build it and they will come!

  25. Hi there - great pictures, I really like that last one - close enough to be clear, far enough back to place the bird in a "landscape" - I think that the way the twig goes from bottom left to top right really draws the eye across the shot and when you get to the top - bingo! There's the bird - splendid stuff!
